USS PRUITT - DD 347This is a featured page

Several years ago, I was trolling on eBay for Pruitt related items for sale and a I noticed an envelope post-marked "USS PRUITT" for sale. I handily won the bid and I started to research the history of this historic ship and her namesake, Corporal John Henry Pruitt II, USMC (b. 1896 - d. 1918). The USS PRUITT (see link to more photos and history) was also a survivor of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.

Imagine my surprise to learn that Corporal Pruitt was awarded the Medal of Honor TWICE for the same combat action during the First World War! Sadly, Corporal Pruitt died of his enemy inflicted wounds on his 20th birthday.

As a retired Marine, this information sparked my keen interest in the USS PRUITT and the heroic Corporal Pruitt.

In 2007, I learned that Corporal Pruitt was indeed related to me as a 7th cousin, once removed. The distance in relationship does not matter -- for we share not only the name "Pruitt", but we are also brother Marines.

"Once a Marine; Always a Marine!"

Semper Fidelis Corporal Pruitt -- May He Rest In Peace.
